General Parish Information

A former D.E.W.-Line Barracks was the first church building in Wemindji (then Paint Hills). It was moved onto its site circa 1959. Later, in 1981, the community erected a beautiful spruce log church on an eight foot concrete block basement. The parish hall is located in the basement.

The Cree Community of Wemindji has a population of over 1100 people. Most of the people here claim Anglican affiliation. Worship services here are in both Cree and English. The services are led by the parish priest, the honourary assistant, and a team of lay readers.
