Constance Lake First Nation (near Calstock), is a Cree community located a short distance west and north of Hearst, in northwestern Ontario. Anglican worship began here in 1943, and it soon became the centre for missionary work at Hearst and Mattice.

Erection of a new building was begun in May of 1951, primarily by carpenters Fred Wesley (aged 71), and David Solomon (aged 76), and the young priest, Hubert Vallis. It was first used for worship at midnight that Christmas Eve.

St. Stephen's benefits from the liturgical ministry of a number of lay Readers who regularly lead in worship; priestly ministry is arranged as required.
